to those who find value in otp and choose to donate...

THANK YOU!!!

I'm Dave. On The Pen is my thing. My passion. But so are my 4 kids, and so is my day job. In order to sustain my efforts, I have to cover the costs involved with OTP. The website, the programs that make it pretty, and the tools that help people connect to it. A gift of ANY amount is greatly appreciated!

Zepbound Savings Card Changes: Everything You Need To Know

This week, a new version of the Zepbound savings card (for those carrying commercial insurance that does not cover Zepbound) was released. Here is everything you need to know about how this impacts you.

If you have previously been taking Zepbound and have been using the manufacturer savings card for those with commercial insurance (through your employer or the marketplace) that does not cover Zepbound, nothing changed at all. Your card should still be active with your pharmacy and governed by the same terms that initially governed the card which are as follows:

  • Save $563/mo off of the retail price of Zepbound

  • 2024 maximum savings cap of $7,319

  • Up to 13 refills

  • Expires 12/31/24

If you go to fill your prescription and you are told a higher price than what you are used to paying the following scenarios are most likely:

  1. Your pharmacy (through an automated or manual process) updated your savings card with the launch of the new card this week. If this happens, ask your pharmacy to verify that the card number on the current savings card matches the one you have previously used.

  2. You have reached the maximum benefit of the original card (13 fills or $7,319 in savings). If this is the case, you have maximized the benefits of the savings card for this calendar year.

  3. You transferred pharmacies, and your old savings card did not transfer with it. In this case, call your previous pharmacy and ask for the card information. If this is unsuccessful, try reaching out to Zepbound support through Lilly to obtain your previous card's information.

For the vast majority of those using this savings card, if you have been paying around $550, you should continue to pay around $550 through the end of 2024.

If you are new to Zepbound and have commercial insurance with no coverage for Zepbound and would like to enroll in the savings card program, you may do so here. The terms of the new card are detailed there, but the general guidelines (assuming you meet all prescribing requirements) are as follows:

  • Save $463/mo off of the retail price of Zepbound

  • 2024 maximum savings cap of $2,315

  • Up to 5 refills

  • Expires 12/31/24

You will notice that the monthly savings has been reduced by $100 for new users of Zepbound. The savings cap has been adjusted for the monthly savings and for the fact that there are only 5 months remaining in the calendar year (as of publishing of the savings card). Up to 5 refills will be permitted through the expiration of 12/31/24.

Moving forward through the end of 2024 there will be two types of savings cards for people with commercial insurance and no Zepbound coverage, the "pre August 26th 2024 savings card" or the "post August 26th 2024 savings card”.

The card for people with commercial insurance who do have coverage for Zepbound remains unchanged.
